There are world-class events and conferences regularly taking place in Northern Ireland and in 2019 we hosted the first NI Medicines Safety Conference. We are key contributors to the WHO Global Safety Challenge for medication safety and provided detail for the technical documents.
We have two of the top pharmacy schools in the UK with both Ulster University and Queen’s University Belfast ranking in the top 5 Guardian University Guide 2019.
We have the only dedicated medicines optimisation centre in Europe that focuses on research and innovation to drive better medicines’ use for the people of Northern Ireland. The Medicines Optimisation Innovation Centre (MOIC) team connect with colleagues throughout Europe and bring this learning back to Northern Ireland. MOIC provides a platform to enable cutting edge research to be completed in medicines use.
Northern Ireland is now recognised as one of the leading regions in Europe in addressing the health and social care needs of the older population through innovation in medicines optimisation. We are a 4-star European reference site for European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing.
Community Pharmacy NI is working to ensure that within community pharmacy, a stronger community pharmacy network that is fully integrated into the health and social care system, can be delivered. Community pharmacists can assume a more proactive role as a front line provider, using their skills, experience and facilities to maximise health and well-being outcomes for people in Northern Ireland.
The Northern Ireland Centre for Pharmacy Learning and Development (NICPLD) is one of four UK Postgraduate Pharmacy Centres. NICPLD has been recognised for its training effectiveness, receiving three National Training Awards, a JISC Award for eLearning innovation and the RPS Award for Educational Excellence. NICPLD is also a Foundation School of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
